How to be a Successful Humour Writer

Speaking at the June 2015 banquet in Orillia where he picked up his second Leacock Medal for Humour, Terry Fallis expressed gratitude for the successes of his writing career, citing his Canada Reads win, a television mini-series, and a stage production based on his bestselling work.  He also talked of his family as his most important project and his publicist with special warmth. But the only time he choked up came when speaking of the friends he had made.

Books sales and prizes are great.  But awards are often capricious, and anticipated financial gain makes a poor foundation for a Canadian writing career.

It makes sense for all of us to measure our writing in terms of the people we meet.

Through this lens (not the money and awards one), my latest book has been pretty successful.

I think.
